Synopsis:
"The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.
Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.
As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfill her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.
In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all." -Goodreads.com
Review:
A wonderful ending to a wonderful series! Okay, perhaps there are still some unresolved issues with a certain angel boy, but hey the author can start a new series on that... right!!?
"'I'm ready to stop saying good-bye to things. I'm going to start saying hello.'" (18)
Boundless is the ultimate denouement for the Unearthly series. Many questions are still asked, but everything really comes into focus, tying all three of the books together. Only seven Triplare are known to walk the earth at the same time, and the Black Wings want them all. Clara, Christian and Angela are all in for a world of hurt as they find that they cannot live normal Stanford college lives like everyone else, and that they must find a way to keep hell from obtaining all seven Triplares. The Black Wings already have three, which leaves Christian, Clara and her brother Jeffrey, but who is the seventh? As their world starts burning around them, Clara and Christian embark on a mission to protect and save the ones they love, even if it means endangering themselves.
"I used to think of this place as being so safe, I think. A place for all of us to talk and be ourselves. A magic place.
Now it's burning down around us. It's gone." (278)
This book is filled with suspense and surprises! I loved Clara's ability to take control of a situation, deal with it, learn from it and then use this knowledge towards her next obstacle. The overall perspective of everyone's visions become increasingly essential as Clara, Christian and Angela realize that it's not divine intervention ruling their lives, it's just guiding them. Clara finds the importance of her Glory and learns how to wield it, as well as how to conjure visions when she needs them the most, which helps her and her loved ones out a lot throughout the book. She also learns to be less selfish, which we later find out is one of her biggest sins, and as she goes through these tribulations she will go through heaven and hell to protect her friends and family.
"'We think of happiness as something we can take. But usually it comes from being content with what we have, and accepting ourselves.'" (347)
Again, I truly believe this is a great ending to the series as it finalizes everything from relationships to angelic battles. Startling revelations are key towards the questions Unearthly and Hallowed left, and this book rounds everything out. I recommend this Young Adult series to anyone wanting an adventure of unearthly proportions.
First Line: "The first thing I'm aware of is the dark." (prologue)
Last Line: "'That's all.'" (434)
