Infinite Days (Vampire Queen #1) by Rebecca Maizel

Infinite DaysInfinite Days by Rebecca Maizel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:
"I release you, Lenah Beaudonte.

Believe... and be free.

Those were the last words I could remember. When I awoke, I immediately felt a cold surface on my left cheek. An icy shiver rushed down my spine. “Rhode!” I screamed. He had to be here. There would be no world without Rhode. A door somewhere near me opened and closed. Rhode loomed over me, but he was a blur. Even in the haze of that moment, his icy-blue eyes pierced me, down to my soul.

After centuries of terrorizing Europe, Lenah Beaudonte, with the help of the handsome Rhode, has been able to realize the dream of all vampires—to be human again. Now, as a raven-haired sixteen-year-old, Lenah believes her greatest challenge is fitting in at her new school. But the challenges have only just begun. The vicious coven Lenah once ruled is threatening the new-found pleasures of her human life, including the one guy who makes her feel most alive: Justin. Can this ex-vamp survive in an alien time and place, or will her past come back to haunt her... forever?" -Goodreads.com

Review:
This was a very interesting take on the Vampire and how sacrifices have to be made for repentance and love. As an audiobook I must say that it was well done! The narration put life in the characters and helped create the right atmosphere of the different scenes. Lenah is a Vampire who wants to be set free, which means she wants to become human again. This ritual that is performed to accomplish this is a sacrifice for both herself and her love, Rhode, as he gives up his own life to transform her. But there is a timeline, and with the clock ticking Lenah learns how to live as a high schooler at a boarding school, all while her Coven discovers her missing and come after her. Taking on the challenges of loving both Vampire and Human beings, Lenah must conjure up the magic within her to try and defeat her foes.

In the time span that Lenah had while she was at school, she sure does get around. Insta-love in multiple people became prominent, but she seems to have experience in falling in love since she's fallen twice before in her vampire days with Rhodes and Viccan. Other than that, I found the storyline wonderful and interesting! A Vampire becoming human and then still having to make various sacrifices to save the ones she loves is a nice twist on the common view of Vampires, as it adds some intense emotion and shows us how Lenah feels both as a Vampire and a Human. I'm immediately starting on the next book and I'm sure I'll enjoy that one as well.

Quotes

"Library? That sounded reasonable. As my thoughts revolved around my days surrounded by books, something miraculous happened. My anger subsided. It ebbed away as the thoughts of books, pages and comfort entered my head." (Part 2, 34:58)

"The instant the sun rises it also begins to set. The moment we are born, we begin to die." (Part 8, 19:42)

*Quotes come from bookmarks I've made in the audiobook, taken down by listening and putting down what I've heard.
